Tym (pronounced "time") was founded in 2009 by three brothers — Matt, Greg, and the late Scott Montgomery. We started where most integrators start: trucks, ladders, drywall dust, and long days running wire through other people's houses. We were good at it. We were also fast at it, mostly because we'd been doing it together since we were kids.
Somewhere around year five, we noticed something. The projects that went smoothly all had one thing in common — somebody had thought through the design properly before we showed up. The disasters all looked the same too: rushed prewires, missing data drops, speakers in the wrong walls, theaters that sounded like cardboard boxes. Every fix was 10x more expensive than getting it right the first time.
So we started selling the planning. Floor plans, prewire checklists, system quotes. At first it was a side service for friends building homes far away. Then it was a side service for strangers building homes far away. Then YouTube took off, and the side service became the whole business.
Today we design smart homes, theaters, and lighting systems for homeowners and builders across all 50 states. We almost never put on a tool belt anymore. The work we do now is the work we wished someone had done for us on every install we ever ran in the field.
